Celebrations of Golden Jubilee

The Fiftieth Anniversary (Golden Jubilee) Celebrations of
His Majesty's Accession to the Throne
9th June B.E. 2539 (9th June, 1996 A.D.)
The fiftieth anniversary of His Majesty's accession
to the throne gives the Thai nation a unique opportunity to
celebrate an occasion that has never taken place in the long
history of Thailand. On the 9th of June, 1996, His Majesty King
Bhumibol Adulyadej will become the first Thai King to have
reigned for 50 years.
Royal, state and religious ceremonies will be held
throughout 1995 and 1996. The Government has appointed a
National Commission, chaired by the Prime Minister to plan
and oversee various ceremonies, activities and projects
jointly organized by all sectors for this auspicious occasion.
These activities and projects will be implemented in accordance
with His Majesty's wish that they bring benefit to the people
and be undertaken without any extravaganza.
The national celebrations are to be held between the
1st of January, 1995 and the 31st of December,1996 with the actual
Golden Jubilee ceremonies taking place on the 9th of June, 1996,
which is the day His Majesty the king ascended the throne.
